A- Proposed Activities and Financial support agreed on

1) ARGENTINA

InterAmerican course on Material Science for Secondary School Teachers
Support agreed on US$ 3.500 for participants from other countries

2) BOLIVIA

A Workshop on Training the Trainers
The presence of 4 experts from other countries to train the 60 members of the ECBI-Bolivia team.
Support agreed on US$ 4000

3) BRAZIL

The organization of a Workshop on Evaluation of Inquiry-Based Science Education
Objective: to discuss the ideas being elaborated on the components of an International Platform that would be used on the evaluation of IBSE Projects as agreed in Stockholm by the IAP Workshop.
Support agreed on US$ 6000

4) CARIBBEAN ACADEMY

Follow-up activities to the conference of Science Education for Sustainable Development in Jamaica to develop the involvement of IBSE methodology, including the access to materials.
Also activities to explore the involvement of Haiti, Guyana and Surinam in new science education methodologies
Support agreed on US$ 3000

5) COLOMBIA

Strategic Planning Workshop for preparing new leadership teams in the IBSE projects
Support agreed on US$ 4000 to partially support the travel of foreign participant teams.


6) COSTA RICA

Inter American course on Biology and Molecular Genetics for Secondary School Teachers
Support agreed on US$ 7000


7) MEXICO

Mexico will host the 3 rd IANAS Focal Point Meeting on Science Education in September 2006
Support agreed on US$ 8000

8) VENEZUELA

A Workshop to do a comparative analysis of the development of IBSE projects in the Americas. This workshop will also produce a book with chapters describing the detailed description of these projects.
Support agreed on US$ 6500 to support travel of foreign participants
The NSRC would explore the possibility of supporting the publication of this book.

Workshop on Ways to Improve the Public Image of Science in Society.
Participants : educators, scientists, academics, science journalists, mass-media producers, industrial sector.

COLOMBIA

Workshop on Training the Trainers – Cali
Participants : 30 Colombian teachers

-Conference of Caribbean Science Ministers
- Publication in newspaper with useful aspects for farmers, small business people.

CHILE

Inter and Ibero American Science Education Conference to be organized jointly with UNESCO in Santiago, Chile – July 2006

CANADA

The Science Education Committee of the Royal Society will take a coordinated request from IANAS and respond to that request as best possible due to limited human and monetary resources

VENEZUELA

The Venezuela IBSE team would like to visit the NSRC in Washington to learn more about the methodology, possibly to attend a LASER K-8 Institute

C- Fund Raising

1- IDB

Prof. Howard Alper, Co-Chair of IANAS, offered to accompany the IANAS Science Education Coordinator to visit the IDB in Washington to find out why our project was not selected and how it could be modified to fit with the priorities of the Bank.

2- The organization of American States

A draft Preliminary Project was presented to the delegates with the request that they should consult with their respective academies and inform the Coordinator of any suggestions or modifications.
This proposal would be presented and the participating Academies will be requested to send endorsement of their participation.

D-Gratitude to Hosts

All foreign participants thanked the Royal Society of Canada and the University of Alberta for the great hospitality and efficient organization of the meeting and extended their gratitude to Profs. Jenkins and Rowell and their staff.
