Science Education Program Meeting held in Rio de Janeiro

The Brazilian Academy of Sciences, on behalf of IANAS, hosted the VII Meeting of the Science Education Program in Rio de Janeiro, on June 12-14 2010.

Understanding the shortcomings of traditional science education that affect girls and women, the meeting focused on the gender issues in science education and discussed the empowerment of girls and women in Science & Technology, and the role of the Academies in removing obstacles to this enterprise.

This meeting was organized with the support of the Global Network of Science Academies (IAP), the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), the Third World Organization for Women in Science (TWOWS), the Special Secretariat of Policies for Women (SEPM), the Brazilian Chapter of the Gender Advisory Board (GAB-Brazil), the Brazilian Innovation Agency (FINEP), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT), the National Historical Museum (MHN), and the Earth Sciences Museum (MCTer/DNPM).
