Vidya De Gannes

Dr. Vidya de Gannes is affiliated with the Department of Food Production, Faculty of Food and Agriculture, The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a Ph. D (high commendation) in Soil Science. Her research areas have focused on Biotechnology and Environmental Microbiology where cutting edge technologies such as 454-pyrosequencing and Illumina sequencing have been applied to unravel microbial communities to unprecedented depth in tropical composts and soils. She has published in high impact factor journals spanning areas such as compost health and safety to microbial ecology. Her most recent book chapter detailed Appropriate and Sustainable Plant Biotechnology Applications for Agriculture Development and Food Security in Developing Economies. Dr. de Gannes have recently received rigorous training in the areas of Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Plant Tissue Culture (University of Wisconsin, Madison); Molecular Diagnosis of Plant Diseases (Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán, Mexico) and Diagnosis of Plant Diseases through Serological Tests (University of Florida). One of her most recent accolades include: Most Outstanding Graduate Researcher (Sciences), best PhD thesis for the academic year 2014.
