Dr. Carla Gonzales is a professor in the Faculty of Sciences and Philosophy and a researcher at the Institute of Research of the height of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima. She is a Biologist and holds a Master degree in physiology (2007) and a Doctor degree in science with mention in Physiology (2013), both obtained at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Her field of research is oriented to the Endocrine Physiology and Reproduction, with emphasis on the use of medicinal plants. She is currently a member of the National Academy of Sciences of Peru, being the youngest academic. Dr. Gonzales is Member of the Latin American Program for the standardization of the seminal analysis (PLEAS), Member of the Board of the Latin American Association of Researchers in Human Reproduction (ALIRH), Research Associate of the Laboratory of Endocrinology and reproduction in the Research and Development Laboratories (LID) of the UPCH and Deputy Director of the Research Institute of the height.
Its research activity is oriented to determine the biological effects of plants native to the Peru on endocrine-metabolic and endocrine-reproductive functions, both in animals and humans. It is also widely recognized for her research on high-andean medicinal plants in particular in studies on biological properties of Maca (Lepidium meyenii). Among their findings is the demonstration of different biological properties between red and black Maca. It also points out by the discovery that maca reverses the prostate hyperplasia, reverts the osteoporosis and improves memory and learning. She is currently a researcher at the circle of research in plants with effects on health subsidized by CONCYTEC.
Dr. Gonzales also participates in a collaborative project with the National Academy of Sciences and the Peruvian Ministry of Education with the purpose of enhancing the teaching of sciences in Peru at the school level, training teachers of life sciences with the objective of increasing the motivation of their students in the different areas of the sciences.
Her doctoral thesis was the winner of the first place in the National Contest of Thesis awarded by the National Assembly of Rectors of Peru. To date she has published 15 scientific articles in journals indexed, and has presented more than 20 jobs in national and international scientific meetings, both in posters as in oral presentations.
