Dr. Liliana López is a full Professor of Geochemistry of the Earth Sciences Institute (Faculty of Sciences) at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and head of the Petroleum Geochemistry Research Group.
She is graduate in Chemistry (UCV), and PhD in Geochemistry (UCV). Her research area is Organic Geochemistry. Her topics of interest are: 1) Petroleum Geochemistry in source rocks identification, oil-oil and oil-source rocks correlation and reservoir geochemistry; biomarkers, oil biodegradation and trace elements; 2) Characterization of organic matter in soils and sediments with emphasis in the identification or natural and anthropogenic organic matter. She held the position of President of the Latin American Association of Organic Geochemistry, and currently is the Venezuelan delegate. She held various positions in the Earth Sciences Institute (Head of the Geochemistry Center, Coordinator of Postgraduate Studies in Geochemistry).
Guest researcher at INTEVEP (Venezuelan Institute for Petroleum Research) and the French Petroleum institute (IFP), visiting professor at the University of Los Andes (Venezuela) and at the Universities of Rio Grande and Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil).
She has directed 44 undergraduate and 18 postgraduate theses and has published 90 papers in national and international journals, two books and three books chapter. Awarded the Orinoquia prize for the best Postgraduate thesis (1993), recognition of the research awarded by the Faculty of Sciences (1993), Academic Career Award Dr. Enrique Montbrum (Professors Association-UCV, 2006), Award "Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury" XVII Edition (2015). Distinguished with the order UCV José María Vargas in second (2003) and first class (2011).
She is Member of the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences; Chair N° XXV (2015-current) and coordinator of the Women in Science Program for Venezuela.
